Logitech has produced a wide variety of mice for various purposes, but when it comes to accurate performance and quick navigation, there are two popular models that people prefer: Logitech Performance MX and Logitech MX Master. Performance MX was the first successor of the legendary MX Revolution, and this model retains all the best features including the handy navigation buttons. On the other hand, MX Master is the latest entry to the series, featuring an updated design, improved battery life, and a few new features. So, which one should you choose? See the comparisons between Logitech MX Master vs Performance MX below!
Design and Comfort
If you put the two models side by side, you may notice that Logitech Performance MX is a little bit shorter. The design is perfect for palm grippers, those who like to put the whole hand on the mouse. Even if you have small hands, this large mouse still fits comfortably.
On the other hand, Logitech MX Master is a little bit taller. Thanks to this design, even though this mouse is still a palm-gripper, it is also comfortable for claw-grippers and fingertip-grippers. The smooth curves have been replaced with more modern angles that make it feel somewhat bulkier. However, it actually still has the same footprint size as the previous model.
There are some notable distinctions that set Logitech MX Master vs Performance MX apart. In addition to the basic left and right clicks and the scroll wheel that moves in vertical and horizontal directions – a staple feature in many Logitech models now –it also has three additional buttons on the left side. They make perfect tools for macros. Under the scroll wheel, there is also a small button for zooming. All of the buttons are programmable via the Logitech software.
Logitech MX Master has all the same buttons, but the buttons under the thumbrest are gesture-sensitive now. You can assign specific gestures for commands such as maximizing a window or snapping it left or right. The most prominent feature is the thumb wheel, which enables easy horizontal scrolls when navigating a large document.
Both are indeed wireless mice, but there are notable improvements on the new model. Logitech Performance MX is quite flexible to use because you can recharge it while using the mouse, but it may take some time to fully recharge. In the end, you still want to recharge it prior to using it because you may find the cable annoying.
On the other hand, Logitech MX Master also enables you to recharge while using the mouse, but it boasts the quick-recharge capability. You can get enough power for the whole day within 4 minutes! That’s very convenient. The maximum battery capacity can give up to 40 days from a single charge.
Logitech MX Master is definitely the best choice here. It has a better design that is suitable for most people, and it is equipped with more features. But the best things about this model are the quick-recharge ability and the ultra-long battery life.
