HP Envy 7640 vs. HP OfficeJet 5740

Even though they come from different product lines, we may be somewhat surprised to see that HP Envy 7640 shares a lot of similarities with HP OfficeJet 5740. Putting the two all-in-one photo printer models side by side, most people will not be able to tell any distinction except for the written names on each body. HP Envy 7640 and HP OfficeJet 5740 can also serve similar purposes. They are priced quite similarly to each other, though sometimes you can find HP Envy 7640 to be a few dollars higher than HP OfficeJet 5740. SO, what are the differences between these models exactly?

As stated before, both models are able to serve similar purposes. Both models are able to perform scanning, copying, printing, and faxing. They are also armed with Wi-Fi, making them viable choices for wireless and mobile printing. However, there are some differences in their specifications and features. Copying and Scanning
These products can scan documents with a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi. For copying, they can copy black text in 300×300 dpi, color text and graphics in 600×600 dpi. Also, each of them has a flatbed size of 8.5”x11.7”, though the automatic document feeder (ADF) tray can accommodate a maximum paper size of 8.5”x14”. Yet, HP Envy 7640 is able to make up to 50 copies at once, while HP OfficeJet 5740 is limited to 20 copies at once.

These models are nearly identical in terms of faxing functionality. They support color documents for faxing with a transmission speed of 4 seconds per page. Each has a faxing memory of up to 100 black-and-white pages and a faxing resolution of 300×311 dpi. The difference is only the numbers of maximum speed dials in each model. HP OfficeJet 5740 can save up to 99 numbers on the speed dial, while HP Envy 7640 can take 120 numbers.

The resolutions supported by these models are also identical, but HP Envy 7640 is able to print slightly faster than HP OfficeJet 5740. The black-and-white and the color ISO printing speeds of HP Envy 7640 are 14 ppm and 9 ppm, respectively. Meanwhile, the ones of HP OfficeJet 5740 are 12 ppm and 8 ppm.

Other Features
They are armed with Wi-Fi connectivity, making them able to connect wirelessly and compatible with various mobile apps, like AirPrint and HP ePrint. Each features an LCD screen for easy and practical control, though HP Envy 7640’s is wider than HP OfficeJet 5740. Each has a 125-sheet input tray, 15-sheet photo tray, 25-sheet ADF tray, and 25-sheet output tray.
