Epson WorkForce DS-510 vs. Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500

We have compared Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 against several products already, including Epson WorkForce DS-560, the brother of the product that we will discuss in this article. It is generally recognized as a high-performance scanner that is also quite versatile due to the extensive paper support. However, this time, Epson WorkForce DS-510 comes to challenge Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500’s power. Being sold at a lower price point, Epson WorkForce DS-510 is indeed an interesting product. Can’t decide between the two products? Read on, my friend.

Epson WorkForce DS-510 vs. Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500

Performance, Speed and Output Quality
First of all, when comparing two scanner products, we usually want to know how good their performance is. Both Epson WorkForce DS-510 and Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 are armed with an optical resolution of 600 dpi. Both also have dual-side scanning capability, so you don’t have to insert a piece of paper twice to get the front and the rear sides with either model, saving your time quite significantly. Both models detect with the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature which allows them to translate scanned documents into editable digital files. The output qualities of the two scanners are identical. Yet, Epson WorkForce DS-510 can work faster than Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. Epson WorkForce DS-510 boasts a blazing 26 ppm speed, while Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 is standing on a slightly lower platform at 25 ppm. However, Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 has a smart input system that can prevent accidental multi-feed very well, as well as detect and allow intentional multi-feed like a taped receipt on an expense report.

Connectivity and Compatibility
Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 works with Wi-Fi, which is awesome, as we all want something that can be easily connected to our gadgets. Unlike its brother, Epson WorkForce DS-510 lacks Wi-Fi support. Both are compatible with Windows and Mac. Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 has already supported USB 3.0 while Epson WorkForce DS-510 still relies on USB 2.0. Hence, Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 can be more practical and faster for transferring scan results to your computer.
