If you are in need of a truly powerful and reliable printer for color printing, Epson is confident to offer you their Epson SureColor P400 and Epson SureColor P600. These two models are popular on the market due to their excellent performance and output quality, especially for color printing. These are great choices for printing photos and high-quality pictures. However, since Epson SureColor P600 is more expensive Epson SureColor P400, you may wonder about which model that you should go with. Find out below!
Design
Putting the two printer models side by side, we can immediately notice some differences. Both Epson SureColor P400 and Epson SureColor P600 have the maximum printing area of 13” x 129”, which means that you can use a wide variety of papers here including paper rolls. Yet, Epson SureColor P600 is slightly bulkier and heavier than Epson SureColor P400. Furthermore, Epson SureColor P400 comes with regular buttons for control. On the other hand, Epson SureColor P600 has been equipped with a touchscreen for easier and more practical control.
Each of them also comes with an automatic document feeder that can take up to 120 sheets of plain paper or 30 sheets of photo paper, a 1-sheet manual rear path for fine art media up to 1.3 mm thick, and a built-in tray for printing on a CD/DVD.
The Inks and Output Quality
Despite the similarities, P400 and P600 happen to use different inks. Epson SureColor P400 works with six ink cartridges and a gloss optimizer. The gloss optimizer is a very good advantage if you are mainly using RC and baryta papers, as it allows for a minimized gloss difference between the ink and the paper. On the other hand, Epson SureColor P600 comes with a total of nine ink cartridges, featuring three additional black inks for improved, more accurate graduations. As the effect, Epson SureColor P600 is able to deliver considerably more vivid colors. The capacity of Epson SureColor P600’s cartridges is also twice the capacity of Epson SureColor P400’s cartridges, allowing for lower ink costs when working with OEM inks.
Epson SureColor P400 vs P600
In general, Epson SureColor P600 is obviously the best way to go. It has touchscreen control and larger ink tanks, in addition to the more accurate color reproduction. Epson SureColor P400 is only viable if you primarily work with RC and baryta papers, in which case, you may need the gloss optimizer for a minimized gloss difference.
