Epson Perfection V39 vs. Canon LiDE 220

Epson Perfection V39 and Canon LiDE 220 are both photo and document scanners available under one hundred bucks. Performance and Output Quality
To begin with, both Epson Perfection V39 and Canon LiDE 220 have similar hardware and optical resolution, 4800 dpi. They both also use Contact Image Sensor (CIS) as the scanner elements, with three-color RGB LEDs as the light source. Both models have similar color quality, as both models have 48-bits internal and 24-bits external color depth, 16-bits internal and 8-bits external grayscale depth. However, Epson Perfection V39 is able to generate scan results with a much higher maximum resolution than Canon LiDE 220. The effective pixels of Epson Perfection V39 is 40,800 x 56,160 pixels, while the maximum resolution of Canon LiDE 220 is 19,200 x 19,200 dpi.

Regarding speed, the difference is pretty much marginal. Canon LiDE 220 is able to scan a letter-sized paper within approximately 10 seconds. Meanwhile, Epson Perfection scans in 300 dpi within 10 seconds, 600 dpi within 20 seconds.

Epson Perfection V39 is able to accommodate more paper sizes than Canon LiDE 220. With a maximum scan area of 8.5” x 11.7”, Epson Perfection V39 can take both A4 and Letter sizes. On the other hand, Canon LiDE 220’s maximum scan area is only up to Letter size.

Both models have sophisticated designs that allow them to take thick papers, books, or documents to be scanned. Epson Perfection V39 has a detachable lid for taking thick objects, while Canon LiDE 220’s lid can be lifted up to one inch. Depending on your needs, a detachable lid can be much more convenient than a liftable lid, especially if the thick of the object is more than one inch.
