Epson Expression ET-2550 Review: Low Ink Cost, Above Average Output Quality

One of the major concerns often arises when using a personal or home printer is the extremely high ink cost. This is especially true if we are using cartridge-based printers. Cartridges are typically not affordable. However, now you can be relieved by the coming of Epson Expression ET-2550. It is a unique all-in-one printer that can save you from breaking the bank just for the operation and maintenance costs. It is also reasonably affordable, making it a great choice for personal, home, as well as office needs. However, the specs and features are pretty basic – which can be understood for its low price.

Epson Expression ET-2550 Review - Low Ink Cost, Above Average Output Quality

Epson Expression ET-2550 is one of Epson’s EcoTank printers, but it is sold at a higher price. However, it indeed possesses a lot more ink, and the ink replacement is available at a very low cost. It can print, scan, and copy, but it can’t fax, so, remember that! Seeing its physicality, it is significantly wider than most printers in order to accommodate the extra-large ink tanks, located in the bay on the right side. It has input and output trays, but, unfortunately, there is no automatic document feeder (ADF). Shame, there is no two-sided printing as well. The paper capacity is also somehow limited. The input tray can hold up to 100 pages of plain paper, equal to 20 sheets of photo paper. It supports Wi-Fi and USB, and it also has a memory card slot, which can be handy at times, but it can’t take USB flash drive. On the front panel, you can see the tiny 1.4-inch color display being accompanied by a four-way controller, the power button, also three buttons each representing Home, Scan, and Stop commands.

Epson Expression ET-2550’s Wi-Fi support is a huge plus point, considering this printer is a lot about being basic. Not in connectivity, at least. It is compatible with various mobile apps, including Epson iPrint app, Apple AirPrint, and Google Cloud Print. You can connect it directly peer-to-peer to a computer or a mobile device. However, it is not fast. It boasts only 9 ISO ppm for monochrome printing and 4.5 ISO ppm for color printing. Not so impressive, so it is not all that great for tackling large numbers of documents. However, it can do well for light duties. Its output quality is considerably above average inkjet printers, as it is capable of printing text in good accuracy even with very small fonts.

Ink cost is the primary strength of Epson Expression ET-2550. It works with four ink bottles, consisting of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. It promises that it is capable of printing up to 4,000 monochrome pages, or 6,500 color pages, before needing another ink replacement. This is incredibly very efficient, and if you don’t handle too many papers regularly, the numbers can translate into months or even years of usage.
