Canon has produced various high-quality printers for various purposes. If you are looking for an affordable yet reliable photo printer that can print large-sized images with great sharpness and detail, Canon TS9020 and Canon TS8020 are very good options. These all-in-one printer models are particularly designed for photo printing, even though they can also perform other tasks such as document printing and scanning. Both can print on optical discs. So, what is the difference between Canon TS9020 vs TS8020, and which one should you buy?

Design
Interestingly, even though these two printers come from the same line, they have very obvious design differences. Well, the layouts are still similar. There is an input paper tray on the rear side of the printer. An output tray is on the front under the control panel. You can lift up the control panel to pull out the optical disc tray for printing on a CD or DVD. The overall dimensions of the two models are even similar.

However, Canon TS9020 has squared edges. It is really boxy. On the other hand, Canon TS8020 has more rounded edges, which is the very reason why this model actually appears more elegant. By the way, check out Canon MG6620 vs MX922, which are great photo printers too.

Nevertheless, Canon TS9020 is equipped with a larger touchscreen. It features a 5.0-inch touchscreen LCD for control. The display is much easier and more convenient to read. Canon TS8020’s touchscreen is smaller, which is a 4.3-inch touchscreen LCD.

Print Performance
Both Canon TS9020 and Canon TS8020 are geared more toward photo printing. But it is still surprising that these printers are blazing fast when printing photos. Interestingly, though, they are rather slow in text document printing. Their black printing speed is 15 ipm, while their color printing speed is 10 ipm.

They each work by using six ink cartridges. In addition to the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks, there is also a gray ink cartridge to create more accurate black levels and shadows. There is also a dedicated pigment black ink, which is for printing text. TS9020 and TS8020 already work with the latest ChromaLife100 inks, which offer superior black levels and brilliant reds. Their maximum print resolution is 9600 x 2400 dpi.

Features
Each of the two models is equipped with a high-performance scanner with an optical resolution of 2400 x 4800 dpi. Each has a memory card slot, which is very useful when you want to print the photo shots from your digital camera. In addition to the standard USB, they are also equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, PictBridge, and NFC.

However, the next important difference of Canon TS9020 vs TS8020 is the Ethernet port. If you need an Ethernet port for installation in a wired network, Canon TS9020 is the way to go. Canon TS8020 does not have Ethernet.
