Design

On the front panel of each printer, you can find a display for control. But Canon MG5720 has a smaller display which is 2.5-inch, and it is not a touchscreen! For control, you use the navigation pads on the right side of the display. On the other hand, Canon MG7720 is equipped with a larger 3.5-inch display that is also a touchscreen. Hence, the control is much more intuitive and convenient.
The next difference that you can notice by observation is the paper trays. Canon MG5720 only has a single paper tray, which is for either plain papers or specialty papers. In other words, if you want to print on a gloss photo paper, you have to remove the plain paper sheets first. Having just a single paper tray can save space, but that’s certainly not convenient. The paper tray capacity is 100 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of 4×6 photo paper.

Print Performance
When choosing between Canon MG5720 vs MG7720, consider if you are going to print photos and images frequently or not. Canon MG7720 is able to print not only faster, but also at higher quality.
Canon MG5720 prints at approximately 12.6 ISO ppm for black, 9.0 ISO ppm for color. You see, this printer is pretty slow. It is not suited for heavy workloads. The maximum resolution is only 4800 x 1200 dpi; such quality is good enough for small-sized images, but you definitely want a higher resolution for larger photographs.
Canon MG7720 should be your choice for more serious photo printing. It is quite faster at 15 ISO ppm black and 10 ISO ppm color, but the main reason to choose this model is the higher maximum resolution which is 9600 x 2400 dpi. It can produce images with better sharpness and detail.
Connectivity
Both models have USB, Wi-Fi, and PictBridge. However, those are pretty much the only connectivity options available on Canon MG5720. If you need an Ethernet port, memory card slot, or NFC, you have to choose Canon MG7720.

In general, Canon MG7720 is much more recommended. It has better features and print quality. But the most practical benefit is the faster printing speed.
