Before checking what the scanners can offer, let’s take a look into the unit first and as you can see, they are identical. We do think it is impossible to set them apart if Canon didn’t put the model name at the front. Not only the dimension and design, even the 7 buttons at the front part are also the same. They are quite large and space consuming but this is the price for their versatility. You can open the lid straight to 90 degree or 45 degree where they will lock in place.
As expected it is impossible to detach the lid completely because they are connected with cables. When opening the lid, there is a white cover for scanning reflective originals but it can be removed. Before using the scanner you will need to release the transport latch located above the scan area or on the right side. The scanning area is standard A4 or letter-size at 31.6 x 29.7 cm for non-transparent patterns but for transparents there is only narrow strip of 8.2 cm in width that run along the scanner height, making it possible to scan film larger than 120/220 medium format.
Just like what you can find on most photo scanners, there are film adapters as well here for up to 4 framed 35 mm slides, another one for 2 film strips of 35 mm which each can take up to 6 images as well as one for medium format film strips with a length up to 22 cm.

Next is for the scanning quality and we want to say that the resolution and overall quality from Canon CanoScan 9000F Mark II and CanoScan 9000F are the same. They are very reliable for scanning regular documents and are very quick as well. The result is amazing at around 300 ppi which is normal but for photos you want a higher resolution to preserve the details. In this part we want to mention that the two are claimed to be 9600 ppi which is not.
When tested, the higher resolution can actually yield results at 1700 ppi and is identical on both scanners. This is less useful if you will be scanning 35 mm material and want an output that is larger than 13 x 18 cm without any downgrade in quality. Usually this amount of data is around 4MP in file size so while it is satisfying for most of us, there are probably users who wished to have more.

The difference is now Mk II has eco mode and comes with new scanning/editing software.
